Recipe of Dal Khichdi in Gujarati
Ingredients for making lentil khichdi
- 1 cup masoor dal
- 1 cup white or brown rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
- 1 small onion chopped
- 4 chopped garlic cloves
- 1 inch grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- salt to taste
- Turmeric
- chilli powder
- spices like garam masala
- optional: Vegetables like carrots, peas, or potatoes
How to make Lentil Khichdi
- – Wash lentils and rice together and soak them in water for 30 minutes. Then drain the water from it.
- Heat ghee or oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic and grated ginger. Saute until onion is translucent.
- Add coriander and cumin seeds and fry for a minute.
- Add the soaked lentils and rice to the vessel and mix well.
- Add 4 cups water and boil.
- Reduce the flame, cover and let it cook on low flame for 20-25 minutes or until the dal and rice are cooked.
- Add salt to taste and any optional vegetables or spices you like and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add chopped coriander and serve hot with ghee.
