Prepare proposals to dismantle old hostels for Scheduled Castes and construct new buildings: Minister Chauhan | News India

Bhopal, 2 September (HS). Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Nagar Singh Chauhan said during the review meeting of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department in the ministry on Monday that he has instructed to prepare a proposal to dismantle the old hostels of Scheduled Castes and construct new buildings so that no incident takes place in the hostels. He said that facilities should be increased in the hostels so that parents feel confident in sending their children to the hostels. The hostels will be well equipped and children will concentrate on their studies. He instructed that all divisional officers should inspect the hostels from time to time and inform me about it.

Scheduled Caste Minister Chauhan said that telephones should be installed in all hostels as an innovation, so that students living in hostels can talk to their parents from time to time. Minister Chauhan reviewed the development related schemes of the Scheduled Caste Department such as hostel operation, scholarship provision, incentives for education, grant schemes, training and self-employment, infrastructure development and untouchability eradication and protection of the rights of Scheduled Castes and Tribes.

Minister Chauhan obtained division-wise information about the status of Post Matric College Scholarship, Post Matric Class 11th and 12th Scholarship. He said that budget provision should be increased in respect of scholarship. He directed that under the Housing Assistance Scheme, housing assistance amount should be made available to regular students at college level outside their home residence within the time limit as per rules. He expressed dissatisfaction over the low percentage of examination results in Gyanodya Residential Schools in Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ujjain. He said that for this a meeting of the principals of Gyanodya Residential Schools should be called and information should be taken from them in this regard.

Minister Chauhan said that before approving the amount of grant to non-government grant-in-aid institutions, it should be tested. He said that the benefits of Savitribai Phule Self-Help Group Scheme should be given, especially to women doing small businesses in Ratlam, Alirajpur and Jhabua districts. Minister Chauhan also took information about loans distributed under Sant Ravidas Self-Employment Scheme and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Economic Welfare Scheme. Principal Secretary of Scheduled Caste Welfare Department Dr. E. Ramesh Kumar and divisional officers were present in the review meeting.
