The exodus of students from Punjab to foreign countries continues at a rapid pace. No matter what the governments say, the desire of Punjabis to go abroad is not decreasing.
The desire to go abroad from Punjab is so much that about 130 passports are being made every hour in Punjab. Most of these are students who want to settle down in Canada and other countries after studying there.
According to the data, 11.94 lakh passports have been issued in Punjab in the year 2023, while 5.82 lakh passports have been issued in Punjab in the first 6 months of 2024 i.e. from January to June. If we talk about about ten and a half years from January 1, 2014 to June 2024, then during this period 87.02 lakh passports have been made in Punjab.
In the year 2023, an average of 3271 passports were made every day in Punjab. In this sense, more than 130 passports are being made every hour and more than one lakh passports are being made every month in Punjab.
The desire of the youth to go abroad and settle there is so strong that they try to reach Canada and other countries by any means. Even strict foreign laws are not able to stop the Punjabis.
Due to Punjabis going abroad, the number of youth in Punjab is continuously decreasing. Now only the elderly are left in many cities and villages of Punjab. According to the data of the Union Ministry of External Affairs, about 28 thousand people of Punjab have left the citizenship of the country in the last 9 years.
