IC 814 Controversy: The government has summoned the content head of OTT platform 'Netflix' on charges of tampering with history and trying to hurt religious sentiments in Netflix's latest web series 'IC 814'. He has been summoned in connection with the ongoing controversy over the series 'IC-814-The Kandahar Hijack'. A controversy has arisen over the names of terrorist characters in the series. According to sources, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday sent a notice to the content head of Netflix India seeking a response. He has been asked for clarification on the alleged controversial aspects of the OTT series.
The thing is that the plane was hijacked by six terrorists. All these terrorists were Muslims. Their names were Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar, Sunny, Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir. Now the names of these terrorists have been changed in this OTT series of Netflix. A big controversy has arisen over the change of names. Users on social media are now demanding a boycott of this series.
What is the whole matter?
In fact, a controversy arose over the changed names of the characters of the hijackers of the Indian Airlines plane coming from Kathmandu to Delhi. A large section of the audience has objected to the 'human' portrayal of the terrorists. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said that the hijackers of IC-814 were very bad terrorists. In this hijack, they adopted fake names to hide their Muslim identity.
Malviya posted on X that filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has fulfilled his nefarious intentions by promoting his non-Muslim names. After decades, people will think that IC-814 was hijacked by Hindus. Malviya said that all the terrorists were Muslims. The power of cinema is such that today history is changed and presented to the world. Such a nefarious act will not only weaken India's security system, raise questions on it but will also help in acquitting the people responsible.
Omar Abdullah hits back:
In this regard, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that it is really interesting to see that people who believed films like 'Kashmir Files' to be true are disappointed with the filming of the events of 'IC814' on Netflix.
However, on the other hand, a large section of users on social media are requesting the Indian government to improve its own database and provide proper information for acceptance and use by others.
