Ranchi : In Jharkhand, six candidates have died within two days at various centres in the state during the excise constable recruitment race, while eight candidates have died within a week. More than 100 candidates have fainted and reached the hospital during the week-long physical examination for this recruitment in the state, dozens of whom are still undergoing treatment. The highest number of cases of candidates dying and fainting during the race have come from Palamu, where four people have died in two days and more than 80 are undergoing treatment. Apart from Palamu, two people in Hazaribagh and one each in Giridih and Ghatshila have died due to suffocation in the race. Doctors say that looking at the gestures and behaviour of the sick and unconscious candidates, it seems that they have used performance enhancing drugs like steroids, injections or energy drinks to improve their performance, which has had an adverse effect on them. Some people have also admitted to taking energy drinks.
The cause of death will be revealed in the viscera report
The bodies of the candidates who died during the race have been kept safe in the viscera after postmortem. According to doctors, the viscera report will reveal the real cause of death. Initially, it was reported that the deaths were due to cardiac arrest during the race.
Candidates started attacking doctors in Palamu
Some candidates admitted in the Medical College Hospital got agitated during treatment. Some patients even tried to attack the medical staff treating them. Hospital Superintendent Dr. RK Ranjan said that seeing the violent behaviour of the candidates, it is suspected that they have taken stimulant drugs. No investigation has been done to confirm this. Most of the candidates who came to the hospital had low blood pressure. They started having trouble breathing. The oxygen level was very low. Some people went into coma. The candidates who went into coma died.
