Raipur, 31 August (HS). Police in the capital Raipur has arrested an interstate smuggler with the banned drug opium. Banned opium worth more than 32 lakhs has been seized from the accused Kuljinder Singh.
According to the information given by the Civil Line police station in-charge on Saturday, the police received information on August 30 that a person has kept opium in an Activa under the Pandri Expressway in Civil Line police station area of the capital Raipur and is looking for a customer to sell it. Additional Superintendent of Police of the city Khan Patel, City Superintendent of Police Civil Line Anurag Jha, the station in-charge of Civil Line, conducted an investigation and made a strategy to catch the accused red-handed with opium. The Civil Line police team conducted a raid and caught the accused Kuljinder Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab, wearing a black turban. 2.106 kg of opium and an Activa have been seized from him.
Action has been taken by registering a case number 475/24 under section 18(b) of the Narcotics Act against the accused Kuljinder Singh at the Civil Lines police station. The estimated market price of the seized opium is Rs. 32 lakhs 13 thousand 340.
It is noteworthy that this action has been taken under the Mukti Abhiyan being run by Raipur Police against drug abuse. Under this campaign, continuous action is being taken by teams of all police station areas of Raipur and Anti Crime and Cyber Unit. A special team has been formed to ensure effective action under the Narcotics Act and all police station in-charges have been instructed to take strict action against those selling and supplying drugs.
