Paddy Procurement: Good news for farmers: This time paddy procurement will break a new record! Government has set a big target | News India


Paddy Procurement: Keeping in mind the supply chain and other improvements in the public distribution system, this time the Central Government will purchase 485 lakh tonnes of paddy at the minimum support price.

Along with this, 19 lakh tonnes of Shrianna (coarse grains) will also be purchased. In the last Kharif season i.e. in the year 2023-24, the government had purchased 463 lakh tonnes of paddy. This time 22 lakh tonnes more paddy will be purchased.

  • The Union Food and Public Distribution Department has set this target after a meeting with the states on Friday. The situation of monsoon rains, Kharif crop production estimates and the preparations of the states were discussed in the meeting.
  • The Centre has increased the MSP of general grade paddy by Rs 117 for the Kharif season. Farmers can sell the same paddy at MSP of Rs 2300 per quintal. Whereas the MSP of A grade paddy has been increased to Rs 2,320 per quintal.
  • Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, has discussed the arrangement for procurement of crops for the Kharif marketing season (2024-25) with the food secretaries of the states and Food Corporations (FCI). Earlier, only 6.60 lakh tonnes of large grains were procured.
