Avani won the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle (SH1) event on Friday (August 30). Mona Agarwal also won a bronze medal in the same event. With these two medals, India's account has been opened at the Paris Paralympics. India has one gold and one bronze medal. Avani scored 249.7 points in the final and set a Paralympic record. Bronze medalist Mona scored 228.7 points.
37-year-old para shooter Mona Agarwal has participated in three medal events at the Paris Paralympics. Mona, who has been performing consistently well in international tournaments, will now compete in the mixed 50m rifle prone R6 event and the women's 50m rifle 3 position R8 event.

Born in Sikar, Rajasthan, Mona's life has been full of struggles. She was unable to walk since childhood due to polio. She also had to face taunts from society to move forward. Mona could not complete her studies. Mona went to Jaipur to become a para-shooter. Her grandmother inspired her to become a shooter.
