According to data released by the Congress before the Election Commission, the party paid its leader Rahul Gandhi Rs. 70 lakh each. The only Congress candidate who received more money from the party fund than Rahul Gandhi was Vikramaditya Singh, who received Rs. 87 lakh.
However, Vikramaditya lost to actress and BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut from Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh. Other Congress candidates who received the same amount as Rahul i.e. Rs. 70 lakh include Kishori Lal Sharma who defeated sitting MP Smriti Irani, KC Venugopal and Manickram Tagore. Congress candidate Radhakrishna from Gulbarga in Karnataka and Vijay Inder Singla, Congress candidate from Amanpur Sahib seat in Punjab, also received Rs. 70 lakh. Senior Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Digvijay Singh, who both lost the elections, were given Rs. 46 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh funds respectively. Notably, Rahul Gandhi has won both Wayanad and Rae Bareli seats, in which he retained the Rae Bareli seat. The party won 99 seats in the 2024 election.
Digvijay Singh who got 50 lakhs lost
According to the information given by Congress to the Election Commission, Anand Sharma was given Rs 46 lakh and Digvijay Singh was given Rs 50 lakh. But both these leaders lost the election. In Kerala, K.C. Venugopal and candidate Radhakrishna from Gulbarga in Karnataka got Rs 70 lakh; Vijay Inder Singla, who contested from Sri Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, also got Rs 70 lakh each. It is worth noting that every candidate has to spend within a certain limit. This limit has been fixed at 95 lakh for Lok Sabha and 40 lakh for Vidhan Sabha.
