Crime: A case of molestation of a woman by a Zomato delivery agent has come to light. In a post on the website, the woman said that the incident happened when she ordered coffee late on Tuesday night amid heavy rains in Ahmedabad.
He said that although the delivery was delayed, he understood the situation and did not mind waiting. He wrote, “The delivery partner kept laughing and apologising for the delay in the order, which made me a bit nervous, but I ignored it thinking that given the current situation in the country, I am not the only one who is getting worried.”
The woman further said that the delivery agent named Shwetang Joshi repeatedly pointed towards her leg and mentioned the injury. Then he shone his torch on her legs which revealed his private parts. He was laughing and jokingly telling me, 'Ma'am, please help'.” The woman then immediately reported the incident to Zomato but her situation worsened after the company's response.
She wrote, “The lady on the call said she will listen to both the parties, i.e. me and the delivery partner. Who in the right mind would want to talk to Zomato customer service without refund or anything?” Wanted immediate action but as a woman being asked to 'wait till further notice' is very wrong. Also I feel how unsafe it is to order food in an emergency. You should be ashamed of your 'safe delivery' policy and its implementation.
The woman was extremely upset and angry by the incident as she claimed that she knows many women who have been subjected to this multiple times a week and they keep quiet. In a later update, she said that Zomato had contacted her and taken the necessary steps, but she still felt unsafe. She added that the delivery man has been removed and his license has been cancelled.
She said, “I won’t say I feel safe now, I still feel unsafe, but they did what they could.” She admitted she still fears the delivery man might come back to her address, but getting legal help has given her some relief.
