Patiala: On Thursday morning around 10 o'clock, a girl jumped into the Bhakra canal passing through village Ablowal on Nabha Road. To save her, her brother also jumped into the canal. But due to the fast flow of water, both of them drowned. Later, divers recovered the body of the girl from some distance. The search for the boy is on. On receiving the information, the girl's father reached the spot. Both were identified. The girl has been identified as Lovepreet Kaur (29) and her brother has been identified as Manmohan Singh (21).
Teja Singh, a resident of village Ravas Brahmana, said that he has three sons. Lovepreet was adopted by her brother-in-law. She was married but due to divorce, she now lived with them. She used to teach as a volunteer in a government school in the village. Everything was going well. He arranged the wedding of his elder son. On Thursday morning, Lovepreet came to Patiala from home on a scooter. After parking the scooter here, she reached Ablowal village by bus. Teja Singh said that meanwhile his younger son Manmohan Singh, who studies in Khalsa College, was talking to Lovepreet on the phone. He came to know that Lovepreet has reached near the Bhakra canal. So he also followed him there. Seeing Manmohan Singh, Lovepreet jumped into the canal. To save Lovepreet, Manmohan also jumped into the canal after him. Due to the strong flow of water, both Lovepreet and Manmohan were swept away. Later, with the help of divers, Lovepreet's body was found in the canal on Sangrur Road, but Manmohan could not be traced.
On the other hand, DSP City-1 Vaibhav Chaudhary says that the Pasiyana police station has kept the bodies in Rajindra Hospital for postmortem. The father of the deceased does not want any action. The reason for suicide could not be ascertained.
