Recently, a school teacher died after falling into the Ganga river, after which the Bihar government has handed over the responsibility of opening or closing schools to the district administration.

Schools are also locked in Mizoram

The situation has worsened due to rain in the north-eastern state of Mizoram. Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in three districts including Mizoram's capital Aizawl. Last week, the administration had ordered the closure of schools for 5 days. The state has been receiving torrential rains since August 20. Many roads have been closed due to landslides.
