Somvati Amavasya 2024: This year the holy festival of Somvati Amavasya will be celebrated on September 2. This time the Amavasya of Krishna Paksha of Shravan month is falling on Monday. Somvati Amavasya has special significance in Hinduism, when Monday and Amavasya combine.

The worship and fasting done on this day is considered to be especially fruitful. Bathing in holy rivers and donating during Brahma Muhurta on Somvati Amavasya brings blessings of ancestors. According to the Panchang, the Amasa Tithi of Shravan month will start on 2 September 2024 at 5:21 am. It will end the next day i.e. on 3 September 2024 at 7:24 am.

Somvati Amas fasting and worship rituals

On this day, women wake up before sunrise, take a bath and observe a fast. First of all, greet Lord Ganesha. Anoint the Lord with Gangajal along with Panchamrit. – Now offer sandalwood, Akshat and flowers to the Lord. Light a ghee lamp in the temple. Offer fruits, flowers and sweets during the puja. After this, women listen to the Vrat Katha. They worship Lord Shiva, Parvati and Vishnu. In the end, pray for forgiveness by performing Aarti and offering Bhog. It is believed that fasting on this day increases the age of the husband and brings happiness and prosperity in the family. What should be done on the day of Somvati Amasa?

On the holy day of Somvati Amas, wake up early in the morning, take a bath and offer water to the Sun God. Make flour balls and feed them to the fish and complete the anthill. Trees like Peepal, Banyan, Banana, Tulsi should be planted. It is considered to be the abode of God. It is believed that these works done on Somvati Amas please the ancestors and bring prosperity in life.

According to Jyotishacharya, women especially worship Pipla on the day of Somvati Amavasya. This is considered an auspicious and religious tradition. Women pray for the happiness, prosperity and longevity of their family by worshiping and circumambulating the Peepal tree.
