Eating whole grains, fruits and vegetables in the diet helps to pass gallstones. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL): This non-invasive procedure uses shock waves to break up gallstones. Drink plenty of water – Drinking water and other fluids helps to pass stones. Excess water dilutes substances in your urine, which can cause stone formation. You can also drink fresh lemonade or orange juice, which contain citrate that may help prevent stones.
For pain relief, you can take over-the-counter pain medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), or naproxen (Aleve). You can take medications such as anti-inflammatory drugs or alpha-blockers to prevent or remove stones.
You can try eating more calcium-rich foods, such as yogurt, soy products, beans, lentils and seeds. Calcium tends to bind with oxalate in your diet, which causes the kidneys to not digest it properly.
You can try eating a low-salt diet, limiting red meat protein, and avoiding stone-forming foods such as beets, chocolate, spinach, tea, and most nuts.
