Ramgarh, 28 August (HS). Treatment of leprosy is possible, but patients shy away from going to the hospital. Efforts are being made to remove this mentality. Only then can the society be freed from leprosy. DC Chandan Kumar said this in the district level coordination committee meeting on Wednesday. A meeting was organized on Wednesday regarding the Leprosy Search Campaign (First Cycle) running from 28 August to 13 September under the National Leprosy Eradication Program.

During the meeting, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahalakshmi Prasad and State Leprosy Consultant NLR Dr. Siddharth Biswal informed the Deputy Commissioner about the micro plan prepared under the Leprosy Search Campaign through a PPT presentation. During this, other information related to the symptoms of leprosy, serious consequences of the disease was given. He informed that in the year 2023, 116 patients were identified in the district under the Leprosy Search Campaign. Leprosy is treatable, while the leprosy patient is provided financial assistance of ₹ 500 and free medicines during treatment.

Create officers in harmony to make the campaign a success

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the officials of other departments including education, health, social welfare to work in coordination for the successful organization of the first cycle of Leprosy Search Campaign. The Deputy Commissioner gave necessary instructions including ensuring regular monitoring of the works being done under the campaign, making people aware about the treatment of leprosy and the misconceptions related to it. Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahalakshmi Prasad, District Panchayati Raj Officer Nisha Kumari Singh, Labor Superintendent, District Leprosy Prevention Officer, District Tuberculosis Officer DRCHHO, In-charge Block Medical Officers, District Program Coordinator, District Epidemiology, HOD CSR Jindal Foundation and others were present during the meeting.
