238 Govindas injured in Mumbai: A major accident took place during the Dahi Handi festival in Mumbai. On Tuesday, 238 Govindas involved in making human pyramids during the Dahi Handi festival were injured. A municipal corporation official told about the accident that the injured Govindas have been admitted to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run and private hospitals for treatment.
Dahi Handi is organised as part of the Janmashtami celebrations. The festival is celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. Govindas participating in Dahi Handi form a human pyramid and break an earthen pot filled with curd suspended in the air.
238 Govinda got injured while trying to build a pyramid
A municipal corporation official said that by 7 pm, 238 Govindas had been injured while trying to form the human pyramid. Of these, 8 have been admitted to various hospitals and 32 are being treated in the OPD while the others have been discharged after treatment.
Many women Govinda groups have also been involved in breaking the dahi handi by forming human pyramids. Dahi handis were hung at main squares or junctions, causing traffic jams in many areas of Mumbai.
