Bengaluru, August 26 (HS). Nongiri Presbyterian Secondary School, Meghalaya will face Major Dhyanchand Sports College, Uttar Pradesh in the final of the 63rd Subroto Cup Sub-Junior Boys International Football Tournament. The title match will be played on August 28 at the Army Services Corps Centre here.
Nongiri Presbyterian defeated Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protistan 2-1 in extra time in a closely contested match, while Major Dhyan Chand Sports College, Uttar Pradesh defeated St. Stephen's School, Chandigarh 3-0 to secure their place in the final.
In the first semi-final, both teams played a tough game, with the first half ending goalless. Nongiri Presbyterian took the lead in the second half through a penalty scored by Mark. However, just 9 minutes later, Bangladesh's Nafeek equalised, forcing the game into extra time.
In extra time, Naembnlam scored a superb goal to take the Meghalaya school to the final.
Major Dhyan Chand Sports College dominated the second semi-final from the start and maintained their hold throughout the match. They took the lead in the eighth minute when Arsalan headed a low cross from the left wing into the goal post.
Uttar Pradesh doubled their lead in the first half itself. Abhinav, who was free inside the box, doubled his team's lead by easily putting the ball into the goal post after receiving a cross from the right wing. Abhinav scored another goal in the second half to increase the team's lead to 3-0 and this score proved to be decisive in the end.
