Rain in Gujarat: The intensity of rain is expected to increase in Gujarat for the next five days. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert today with the possibility of very heavy rains in Vadodara, Bharuch, Navsari, Surat, Valsad, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
Rivers are in spate due to heavy rains in Navsari. Purna, Kaveri and Ambika rivers cross the danger level. 30 villages have been alerted. Khergam has received 14 inches of rain in 24 hours.
On Sunday, rain was reported in 145 talukas of the state. The highest rainfall of 11 inches (263 mm) was recorded in Khergam of Navsari. More than two inches of rain was recorded in 52 talukas of the state. 11 inches of rain was recorded in Khergam, 9 inches in Dediapada, 8 inches in Sagbara, 7.5 inches in Kaparada, 7 inches in Valsad, 7 inches in Chotila and Dharampur, 6.5 inches in Rajkot, 6.5 inches in Nandod, 5 inches in Dag Ahwa, 5 inches in Kukarmunda and 5 inches in Waghai.
Also, an orange alert has been issued for parts of Gujarat except Saurashtra Kutch. However, very heavy rains are expected in Amreli and Bhavnagar of Saurashtra. Apart from this, an orange alert has been issued for all the rest of the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch.
After heavy rains in the upper areas, 15 gates of Surat's Ukai dam have been opened. More than 1.50 lakh cusecs of water has been released from the dam. At the same time, due to the increase in the water level of Aajava dam, the water level of Vishwamitri river has reached 18 feet. However, the river is still 8 feet away from the danger mark.
Heavy to very heavy rains have been predicted in the state for the next five days. Heavy to very heavy rains are also expected in the state today on the day of Janmashtami. Red alert for rain has been issued in 7 districts of the state and orange alert in 26 districts.
Very heavy rain is expected in Anand on August 27. Apart from this, an orange alert has been declared with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in some parts of Gujarat region. Heavy to very heavy rains may occur in some parts of Saurashtra-Kutch on this day too.
Red alert and very heavy rain is expected for Anand on Wednesday, 28 August. Apart from this, heavy to very heavy rains are also expected in other parts of Gujarat region. Very heavy rains may occur in Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka and Kutch of Saurashtra on this date. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in all the districts of Gujarat region on August 29.
Very heavy rains are expected in Banaskantha, Ahmedabad on August 30. A red alert has been issued for Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh and Dwarka of Saurashtra-Kutch with the possibility of very heavy rains, while an orange alert has been issued for the remaining parts.
In view of the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains in the state, a review meeting was held at the State Emergency Operations Center under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Rajkumar, in which, keeping in view the situation, officers and employees of the district and taluka administrative machinery were instructed to be present on duty at the headquarters. The Chief Secretary directed the various district administrations to make all necessary advance preparations.
