Bathinda: While changing the 66 kV breaker running in the 220 kV cell of Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant Lahra Mohabbat, three young contract labourers got severely burnt due to electric shock. They have been identified as Heera Lal son of Ram Krishna resident of Adarsh Nagar Bathinda, Krishna Singh son of Darshan Singh resident of Dhingar and Jagjit Singh son of Jaswant Singh resident of Selbarah district Bathinda. Among them, the condition of Heera Lal is very serious and he has been admitted to Adesh Hospital for treatment. While Krishna Singh and Jagjit Singh who were hit by electric shock have been admitted to AIIMS Bathinda. There is a lot of anger among the contract employees due to this incident. They also expressed anger against the officials of the thermal plant.
On this occasion, GHTP Contract Employees Union President Jagroop Singh and General Secretary Jagseer Singh Bhanghu said that at around 8 am on Saturday, these three employees were working on changing the breaker of two 66 KV lines. Supply was going on from one of these lines. The officials made the employees work on this line without taking a permit. Its isolator and breaker were not cut, due to which the accident happened.
He said that the thermal and MS management. Sodhi Company has been negligent in the treatment of the burnt employee. He says that the injured should be treated in the ESI dispensary of the thermal. He said that ESI dispensaries refer the injured to distant hospitals like Ludhiana etc. Due to this, many times the injured person is unable to reach there and faces a lot of difficulty in getting out. He demanded from the thermal management and the contractor that the injured youth should be treated free of cost. In this regard, Executive Bhupinder Singh said that he is not at fault in this incident. Permit to close the line was not received yet, but the contract laborers started working on their own will.
On the other hand, senior vice president of Dal Khalsa Baba Hardeep Singh has demanded that the matter be investigated impartially and strict action be taken against the thermal officials found guilty. The Punjab government should get the injured treated at its own expense and regularize them.
