Gopeshwar, 24 August (HS). The Badrinath Highway near Nandprayag was blocked due to a landslide caused by heavy rain on Friday night, which could not be opened even till Saturday evening. The NH is trying to open it by using JCB, but due to heavy debris, the road could not be opened even till Saturday.
The administration is arranging the movement of vehicles on the Gopeshwar-Chamoli motor road through the Kothiyalsain-Sakot-Nandprayag bypass motor road. Due to the narrowness of the motor road, the big vehicles passing through here are creating a jam situation. Due to this, the local people along with the passengers are getting stuck here for hours.
There has been heavy rainfall at night in Chamoli district for the last few days. Badrinath highway was closed at three to four places due to heavy rain on Friday night. The highway was opened at many places, but the heavy debris in the Nandprayag landslide zone could not be removed for two days. Due to this, the local people along with the travelers are facing a lot of problems. Two machines have been installed on both sides by the NH.
Here, the Nanda Devi Lokjaat Yatra Marg, which is considered the lifeline of Dewal Vikas Khand, has been completely damaged in Bagdigad and Chhajali. There is no footpath for the villagers of Kulig and Van villages. People are travelling risking their lives. A total of 10 villages are cut off from Dewal tehsil. Essential items like fruits and vegetables are not reaching Van, Kulig, Vanudi, Bagdigad, Harni, Mudoli, Vank, Suya villages.
Assistant Engineer of Public Works Department Jagdish Tamta said that 35 meters of road has been damaged in Bagdigad of Dewal Lohajung motor road due to cloudburst in Bhekaltal on Friday. 40 meters of road has been completely washed out in Chhajali, five kilometers ahead of Lohajung on the same road. The road is not even suitable for walking. Alternative arrangements are being made to build the road. At present, a footpath is being prepared at the damaged places.
On the other hand, nine roads connecting Pokhari development block of Chamoli district are blocked due to heavy debris. These include Pokhari-Rudraprayag, Gopeshwar-Pokhari Pokhari-Karnprayag, Pokhari-Harishankar, Gudam Nail, Jilasoo Sarana, Goganapani Bhaduda of Public Works Department and Sarmola-Ranaun, Semi-Panai-Uttaron, Mohankhal-Tali-Kansari motor road of PMGSY. Assistant Executive Engineer of Public Works Department Krishna Kumar said that due to continuous rain, difficulties are being faced in opening the blocked road. However, efforts are on.
