New Delhi, August 24 (HS). BJP MLA from Laxmi Nagar assembly constituency of Delhi, Abhay Verma, has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi is installing CCTV cameras at the places from where Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have been elected. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan will hear this petition on August 27.
The petition states that former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had announced the installation of CCTV cameras in his budget speech for 2020-21. The PWD Minister was authorized to install CCTV cameras. The PWD Minister is discriminating in this matter and he is allowing the installation of CCTV cameras only in those areas from where Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have been elected. Advocate Satyaranjan Swain, on behalf of the petitioner, has said that the PWD Minister deliberately did not allow the installation of CCTV cameras in Laxmi Nagar Assembly constituency.
The petition states that according to the survey report of Bharat Electronics Limited, some 2066 CCTV cameras will be needed in Laxmi Nagar Assembly. For this, the petitioner had given a representation to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. But there was no response to it. After that, the petitioner also wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of Delhi regarding this. The petition states that not installing CCTV cameras has a bad effect on the law and order of the area. The petition demands that instructions be issued to install CCTV cameras in the petitioner's assembly constituency as per the survey of Bharat Electronics Limited.
