Taffazul Islam, the prime accused in the Nagaon Dhing gangrape case in Assam, has died. It is being said that while he was being taken to the crime scene, he escaped from police custody and jumped into a pond. The body of the accused has been recovered. Police said that while he was being taken to the crime scene at 4 am, he jumped into a pond, leading to his death.

Police said that the body of the accused was recovered after a search of two hours. The incident took place on Thursday evening, when three brutes raped the innocent girl. While returning from tuition, a 10th class student was allegedly gang-raped by three people and left unconscious on the roadside. When someone saw the victim lying naked, they informed the police.

After this, the victim was admitted to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition. There is tremendous anger among the people over the gang rape of a minor. After this incident, there were large-scale protests across the state. Local people are still protesting in the area regarding this incident. Apart from this, various organizations and residents have demanded an indefinite shutdown till the arrest of the accused.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has condemned the incident. He tweeted that this horrific incident involving a minor is a crime against humanity. It has hurt our collective conscience. We will not spare anyone and bring the culprits to justice. I have directed the DGP of Assam Police to visit the spot and ensure speedy justice against such monsters.
