Pawan Singh will not contest elections from Asansol, Trinamool said – Khela has started

Kolkata, 03 March (HS). Bhojpuri star and famous singer Pawan Singh, who was announced by BJP as the candidate from Asansol, coalfield region of West Bengal, has taken a U-turn. When the party made him its candidate on Saturday evening, he was expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders and said that he trusts the people of Asansol. After this, on Sunday afternoon he has announced that he will no longer contest the elections.

Sources said that he has taken this decision only after the controversy regarding Bhojpuri songs. On Sunday afternoon, Pawan Singh wrote on social media platform X that he expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership of BJP. The party had faith in me and declared me as the candidate from Asansol, but due to some reason I will not be able to contest from Asansol.

On the other hand, the state's ruling party Trinamool Congress has targeted BJP over Pawan Singh's step back. The party has said that the game has begun.

Party leader Abhishek Banerjee has said on Pawan Singh's announcement of not contesting the elections that this is a victory of the indomitable spirit and power of the people of West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress had made a big attack on BJP making Pawan Singh its candidate from Asansol. Trinamool had raised questions on the portrayal of women of Bengal in Pawan Singh's old songs. This controversy escalated considerably within a few hours. Trinamool had linked it to the respect of women of Bengal. Party MP Derek O'Brien said that the game had already begun even before the elections.

It is noteworthy that Shatrughan Sinha is currently the MP from Trinamool Congress on Asansol seat.
