Kiev, August 24 (HS). Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday said after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit that India can play an 'important' role in global diplomatic efforts to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky said that he is looking forward to visiting India. He made this remark after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Ukraine, invited Zelensky to visit India during bilateral talks here. Addressing Indian media persons after the bilateral talks, Zelensky said, 'Modi's visit is historic. He said that India needs to support Ukraine, not balance between America and Russia.
Modi's nearly nine-hour visit to Ukraine was the first by an Indian prime minister since Ukraine's independence in 1991. The visit comes six weeks after his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in July.
Zelensky said, 'When you start a strategic partnership, some conversation, you should not waste time. So I think it would be good to meet again, and I would be happy if our meeting takes place in India. He said, 'I really need your country to be on our side.
Zelensky said, “Prime Minister Modi is more supportive of peace than Putin. The problem is that Putin does not want (peace).”
