Surat Metro construction accident: The operation of metro in Surat is becoming a disaster for the people of Surat, two accidents have happened in a month and the second accident happened yesterday even before the debris of the first incident could be removed. It has been more than 20 hours since a 135 tonne gerboder box and crane fell on a society house in Nana Varachha, but no work has been done to remove the debris yet. Metro officials say that the crane and launcher are heavy and hence plans are being made to lift them and the operation is likely to happen by late tonight. However, even though this is a big tragedy and a big negligence, people are still surprised that no police complaint has been filed against those responsible.

Yesterday at around 5-10 pm, while launching a 135 tonne girder box between pillar no P 110 and 11 in Yamunanagar area near Ganga Jamuna Society opposite Nana Varachha, Chowpatty on Ratna Sarthana to Kapodara Metro route, the crane suddenly collapsed and the crane and launcher fell on a building.

As soon as the launcher hit the building with a bang, there was a stampede and panic spread among the people. The incident took place at 5 pm yesterday and even after more than 20 hours, plans are still being made to clear the debris.

Metro officials said today that due to the heavy weight of the crane and launcher, it is being planned to take the launcher and crane box home with the help of a giant crane working in the bullet train project. It is likely that the crane along with other equipment will reach the site by late tonight, if there is no rain, then work will start at night itself.
