Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will now remain in jail till September 5. The CBI has sought more time from the Supreme Court in the case, so the next hearing will be held on September 5. However, the first hearing was to be held on Friday, after which it was being said that Arvind Kejriwal might get bail. But the postponement of this hearing is being considered a big setback for Kejriwal.
The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on two separate petitions of CM Arvind Kejriwal challenging the validity of his arrest by the CBI in the alleged Delhi Excise Policy Scam case and his bail plea in the same case till September 5. After hearing the arguments of the parties on his petitions, a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjwal Bhuyan on Friday said that it will hear the case next on September 5, so that a counter affidavit can be filed.
The CBI told the bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan that we have filed the first reply, but it is not on record yet and we want to file the second reply. We need time for this. On the request of the CBI, the bench ordered the investigating agency to file its reply within two days. At the same time, the hearing on Kejriwal's bail plea has been postponed till September 5. ASG SV Raju said that he will file his reply on the second petition in a week. After this, the bench fixed the next hearing of the case on September 5.
