Dehradun, March 03 (HS). The snowfall that started on the Himalayan peaks continued on Sunday evening also. The high Himalayan areas including Chardham Dham, Hemkund, Chakrata are covered with thick sheets of snow. It is raining intermittently in the lower hilly areas including Dehradun and Mussoorie. Due to snowfall and rain, coolness has once again returned in the state.
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy snowfall in five districts for today, while the weather is expected to remain clear from Monday. Due to snowfall and rain in the state, two national highways, two border and two state roads and 22 rural motor roads are blocked, the work of opening them is underway.
Intermittent heavy rain showers are falling in Dehradun from Sunday morning till late evening. Despite Sunday being a holiday, people did not come out of their homes since morning. Light rain is occurring in Doiwala, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Kalsi, Tiuni and sub tehsil Mussoorie of Dehradun. More than two and a half feet of snow has accumulated in Kedarnath Dham. The snowfall in Dham Jari since last one week continued on Sunday also. Along with Kedarnath Dham, there was snowfall in areas like Pavlikantha, Madhyameshwar, Tungnath, Chopta, Chandrashila etc. There is snowfall and rain in Badrinath Dham, Uttarkashi and Chamoli.
Light rain is occurring in Bageshwar district and Almora of Kumaon and snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions. Farmers in rural areas are happy with the rains. Light snowfall is likely to continue in areas at altitudes above 3,000 thousand metres. After continuous snowfall, the influx of tourists has increased at places like Auli, Harsil, Gaurson, Chopta, Tungnath etc. of Chamoli.
According to the forecast released by the Meteorological Department on Sunday, there is a possibility of heavy snowfall at some places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar districts and in areas at altitude of 3000 thousand and above.
There is a possibility of hailstorm along with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Tehri, Pauri, Dehradun, Almora, Champawat, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. There may be heavy rainfall during this period. In view of this, orange alert has been issued in the districts. The weather is expected to clear in the state from Monday.
Bikram Singh, Director of Meteorological Center, Dehradun, says that light snowfall is likely to continue in areas with a height of more than two and a half thousand meters. The rainy season will continue in other hilly districts also. The weather of the state is expected to remain clear from Monday.
According to the State Emergency Operation Center, Rishikesh-Badrinath NH-58 in Chamoli district is blocked due to boulders near Pagal Nala. Now traffic is smooth till Hanuman Chatti. Action is being taken to open the route with a JCB. Mandal-Chopta National Highway 107A traffic is smooth. Due to damage to 33 KV power line in Tehsil-Gairsain, the electricity system in 90 villages is disrupted, which has now been smoothened. Electricity supply is also disrupted in Badrinath and Mana. At present the work is not being done due to rain and drought. Drinking water supply is smooth in the district.
The road from Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway (NH-108)-Jhala Sukki Top to Gangotri in Uttarkashi district is blocked due to snowfall. 02 wheel loader, 01 dozer, 01 JCB from BRO. And (25-30) The work of snow removal by laborers is in progress. Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway (NH-94), Chinyalisaur-Suvakholi-Mussoorie road, Lambgaon main district road – smooth for traffic.
04 rural motor roads in the district are disrupted for traffic due to snowfall. Electricity supply is disrupted in Harshil, Mukhwa, Dharali and Gangotri areas due to damage to 11 KV power line due to snowfall under Tehsil-Bhatwadi. All National Highway power supply is smooth in Tehri district.
Electricity supply is disrupted in Kedarnath due to damage to the power line in Bhimbali, Tehsil-Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district.
02 border routes are blocked in Pithoragarh district, action is being taken to open them. The land-Munsiyari state road traffic is smooth. Ghatiabagad-Lipulekh border road and Gunji-Kutty-Jolikong border road are blocked for traffic due to snowfall, action is being taken to open them.
In Dehradun district, National Highway 707 A- Tuni Chakrata is closed from km 45 to 82 (Koti to Chakrata). To open the route, 03 JCBs and 01 snowcutter are employed to remove snow. Within the district, 02 state roads and 18 rural roads are blocked due to snowfall/debris, the process of opening them is in progress. Electricity and drinking water supply is normal in the district.
