The Supreme Court has said that a committee will soon be formed to permanently resolve the grievances of the farmers in an amicable manner. The Supreme Court directed the Punjab and Haryana governments to persuade the protesting farmers to remove tractors and trolleys from the Shambhu border.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta and Ujjwal Bhuyan has posted the matter for further hearing on September 2. The bench directed the Punjab and Haryana governments to inform the protesting farmers that both the states approaching the court are concerned about their issues and a forum has been set up for redressal of their grievances.
In its order, the bench has asked the Advocate General of Punjab and the AAG of Haryana to submit the suggested issues. These issues will be helpful as a reference for the court-appointed committee.
A lawyer in the case said that Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa should be made a member of the committee as he is the original petitioner in the petition filed before the high court.
However, Haryana's senior additional advocate general Lokesh Sinha opposed the proposal and said that no political person should be included in this committee.
The bench also said that we will not include any political person in the committee. It is worth noting that farmers of Punjab and Haryana have been protesting at Shambhu border since February 13. Farmers are demanding a legal guarantee of support price for their agricultural produce.
The Supreme Court was hearing a plea by the Haryana government challenging the High Court order asking it to remove the barricades at the Shambhu border near Ambala within a week.
