Issue of delay in NHAI projects: Projects worth crores of rupees of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Punjab are pending due to non-acquisition of land. Due to this, NHAI is facing difficulties. The hearing of this case is going to be held in Punjab and Haryana High Court today.
During the hearing, the Punjab government will file an affidavit in the High Court and explain the reason for the delay in the project. Because this problem has been occurring for the last one year. However, NHAI has clarified that despite depositing crores of rupees, possession of the land has not been given yet. Due to this the contract had to be cancelled.
In its petition, NHAI had challenged the land acquisition process for Memadpur (Ambala)-Banur, IT City Chowk Banur to Kharar Chandigarh Expressway under Bharat Mala Project. It was also told in the court that due to non-availability of land, the work of Delhi Katra Expressway, Ludhiana-Rupnagar to Kharar Highway and Ludhiana Bathinda Highway is also pending.
NHAI told the High Court that despite the court's order, it is still not being given possession of the land. 80 percent of the land has not been acquired in 10 National Highway projects so far. Due to this, the National Highway project covering a distance of 897 km at a cost of Rs 34193 crore is stuck.
While the work of 391 projects costing Rs 13190 crore is also pending. Along with this, due to non-availability of land, they have also had to cancel some contracts. Contractors had to pay one percent. Along with this, even after depositing Rs 4104 crore for the land, possession of the land has not been given.
