The Indian stock market closed in the green zone today, Thursday, August 22. The market opened more than 300 points higher in the morning. Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 18 were in the green and 12 in the red. Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed with gains for the sixth consecutive session today. Nifty closed at 24,811 today, up 0.17 percent or 41 points. At the time of market closure, out of the 50 Nifty stocks, 27 were in the green and 23 in the red.

The top gainers in the Nifty pack today were Grasim (2.65%), Tata Consumer (2.42%), Bharti Airtel (1.60%), Apollo Hospitals (1.37%) and Tata Steel (1.37%). While the top losers were Wipro (1.37%), NTPC (1.25%), Tata Motors (1.22%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.21%) and Dr. Reddy's (1.17%).
Regional index position
As for the sectoral indices, Nifty Bank gained 0.59 per cent, Nifty Financial Services 0.45 per cent, Nifty FMCG 0.62 per cent, Nifty Metal 0.67 per cent, Nifty PSU Bank 0.67 per cent, Nifty Private Bank 0.57 per cent, Nifty Real 0.47 per cent, Nifty Consumer Durables 0.86 per cent and Nifty Midsmall Healthcare 0.44 per cent.
