Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been elected the world's top central banker for the second consecutive year. Shaktikanta Das has received an A+ rating in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Card 2024. Shaktikanta Das has been given this honor for controlling inflation, economic growth, currency stability and control over interest rates. He was also selected as the top central banker last year and received an A+ rating. Das was awarded the 'Governor of the Year' award at the Central Banking Awards 2023 in London in June last year.
Prime Minister Modi has also congratulated him on this achievement. Congratulating him, he said, “Congratulations to the RBI Governor for this achievement and that too for the second time. This is a recognition of his leadership in RBI and his work towards ensuring economic growth and stability.
According to Global Finance magazine, their grades are based on a scale of A to F for success in inflation control, economic growth targeting, currency stability and interest rate management. 'A' represents outstanding performance and 'F' represents complete failure. Global Finance's annual Central Banker Report Card honours bank governors whose strategies have outperformed their counterparts through originality, creativity and persistence, the magazine said.
Let us tell you that the Central Banker Report Card is published every year in the US Global Finance magazine since 1994. It grades the central bank governors of 101 countries, territories and districts. These include the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States.
