Jammu Kashmir Elections 2024: Before the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti's party PDP has suffered a major setback. PDP's chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari left the party on Tuesday. Apparently, Bukhari was upset over not getting the order to contest the elections. He was expected to contest from Wagura-Kiri, but the return of former minister Basharat Bukhari to PDP last month has reduced the chances of Suhail Bukhari getting a ticket.

Bukhari was a close aide of Mehbooba Mufti

Journalist-turned-politician Bukhari was a close aide of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and had also served as her media advisor when Mehbooba was the chief minister.

Talking to reporters, Bukhari said, 'I joined the party after the PDP-BJP government fell in 2019. It was a difficult time and in the last five years I have worked really hard to give identity and rights to the people of Kashmir and strengthen the basic idea of PDP. When attempts were made to break the PDP, the party workers did not break. They stood with the party in every ups and downs and the youth and educated people also contributed to it by joining the party.'

Bukhari made this allegation

However, Bukhari alleged that people were being sidelined despite their outstanding contributions. He said, “New leaders are being welcomed. Many party leaders who have always stood with the party are not included. In such a situation, it is becoming difficult for me to work in such circumstances. Therefore, I have resigned from the post of party spokesperson and core membership after informing the chief.”

What will be Suhail's stance now?

After Suhail Bukhari left the party, there is speculation that he may join Farooq Abdullah's party National Conference. If Abdullah assures him of giving Wagura-Kreeri ticket. If this does not happen, he can also contest the election as an independent.

Mehbooba's daughter Iltija enters politics

For the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the People's Democratic Party announced the list of in-charges of eight assembly constituencies. Party chief Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija has been given responsibility from Bijbihar assembly constituency. Iltija Mufti will start her political career from the assembly elections. As soon as Mata started campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, the discussion about her contesting the elections has intensified.
