The party has decided to send Punjab BJP leader and Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu to Rajya Sabha. BJP is sending him to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. Bittu's name was approved in the BJP high command meeting on Tuesday. The last date for filing nomination for Rajya Sabha elections is 21 August. Therefore, Bittu will file his nomination today. Earlier it was being speculated that he would contest elections from Haryana, but from there BJP has made Kiran Chaudhary, who left Congress, its Rajya Sabha candidate.
After being declared a Rajya Sabha candidate from Rajasthan by the BJP, Bittu said, 'I am very grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda and the respected leadership of the BJP for choosing me. The Rajya Sabha has expressed confidence in me by nominating me from Rajasthan.
He said, I promise to work tirelessly to make our great country and party proud. With your support I will try to uphold the values and principles of our Constitution and contribute to the progress and prosperity of our country.
Ravneet Bittu's political career started with the Youth Congress in 2008. In 2008, he became the first elected president of the Punjab Youth Congress. In 2009, the party gave him a ticket from Sri Anandpur Sahib and he won the election easily thanks to the efforts of his grandfather Beant Singh and father Swarnjit Singh. After winning the election for the first time, the party also made him a member of the Home Affairs Committee. In 2014, the Congress shifted Bittu's seat to Ludhiana. After this, he was elected MP from the same seat in 2014 and 2019.
