New Delhi: Malaysia, which was formerly Hindu but later converted to Islam, still produces some of the finest dance dramas based on the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Its capital Kuala Lumpur (originally called Cholapuram) attracts many foreign tourists to see these dance performances. Apart from the natives of Malaysia, there are many Indians here. There are also many Chinese. This country, located on the Strait of Malacca, has unusual cultural and strategic importance. Similarly, when Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim came to India on a visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave him a warm welcome. The Prime Minister had an in-depth conversation with Anwar Ibrahim, who arrived in India late on Monday evening. Needless to say, there was also a discussion about China's claim on the South China Sea. The western end of this South China Sea touches the eastern coast of Malaysia.

Before meeting the Prime Minister, he went to the Samadhi of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi where he paid tribute to the Father of the Nation. He also met President Draupadi Murmu.

In 2015, Prime Minister Modi visited Malaysia. There was high political participation and meaningful talks. At that time, Anwar Ibrahim came to India at the invitation of Modi. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Utama Haji Muhammadbin Haji Hasan, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri, Utama Zafrul Aziz, Tourism Minister Dato Sri Teon King Sing, Digital Minister Govind Singh Dev A and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Yee Ke Ang. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and other ministers were also present from India's side in that meeting.

Anwar Ibrahim is also scheduled to hold a roundtable with several industry leaders during his visit to India. Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver a lecture on “One Step Ahead: The Global South and India-Malaysia Relations” at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICW).

Malaysia is one of India's largest trading partners among the ASEAN member countries. It is also India's largest partner among the eight South Asian countries.
