Morbi: A married woman in Morbi town committed suicide by hanging herself after being physically and mentally tortured by her in-laws, including her husband. Before taking the final step, the deceased sent three videos to her brother on WhatsApp, stating that her in-laws, including her husband, were doubting her character.
Kiranbhai Vasava (32), a resident of Bharuch, filed a police complaint with the Morbi A-division against his family members, including Hasmukh Patel, who lives in Shakht Shanala.
In his complaint, he said that eight months ago, his elder sister Rekha was married to Shakta Shanala resident Hasmukh Patel. After the marriage, family members including Hasmukh Patel beat up his sister due to suspicion of her character.
On August 18, the deceased Rekhaben called Kiranbhai and told him that I want to come to my house on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, but my in-laws do not allow me to come. Whereas my husband is harassing me in a wrong way. I cannot tolerate this anymore. I said that I will not be able to come to our house anymore.
After which at around 6 pm, Rekhaben sent three videos on the WhatsApp of complainant Kiranbhai. In which 'My husband does not trust me. The whole family is harassing me by doubting my character. Since I am being mentally tortured, I prefer death, so my husband and his family are responsible for my death.
After receiving the video, the complainant called Rekhaben, but she did not receive the call. After some time, Rekhaben committed suicide by hanging herself in her mother-in-law's house.
At present, Morbi city A-division police have registered a case against the accused under sections 108, 85, 54 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023 and section 3 (2) (5) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
