Jammu, August 20 (HS). An important awareness lecture was organized at Higher Secondary School Barkh in Reasi district in which the burning issue of drug abuse among adolescents was discussed. The initiative was aimed at educating students and local residents about the serious consequences of drug addiction and its impact on both individual health and social well-being.
The lecture focused on the growing menace of drug abuse, highlighting the physical and mental health risks associated with substance use. Emphasising that drug abuse is a leading cause of preventable illness and premature death, the session highlighted how even a single instance of drug use to cope with stress or fit in with peers can have a devastating long-term impact on one’s life and family.
Additionally, the programme included information on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, particularly its link to oral cancer. The awareness drive was aimed at highlighting how these substances can lead to serious health problems thereby promoting a more informed and health-conscious community. Local residents expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army for organising such essential seminars and awareness programmes.
