Chhatarpur/Bhopal, August 20 (HS). Seven people were killed and six were injured in a horrific road accident in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning.
The accident took place near village Kadari on National Highway-39 in Civil Line police station area. An auto filled with devotees from Uttar Pradesh going to Bageshwar Dham collided with a truck. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital. The condition of four of them is critical, who have been referred to Gwalior. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has expressed grief over the accident.
Civil Lines police station in-charge Valmik Choubey said that 13 devotees were going to Bageshwar Dham for darshan in an auto from Mahoba railway station of Uttar Pradesh. The auto had reached near village Kadari on National Highway-39 at around 5 am on Tuesday morning, when the driver dozed off and the auto collided with a truck. Seven people died in the accident, while six people were injured. The deceased also include an elderly person and a one and a half year old girl. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital. The police has started investigating the case by sending the bodies for post-mortem.
Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police Agam Jain said that five people died on the spot in the accident, while two died in the hospital. All the devotees are residents of Uttar Pradesh. The deceased include auto driver Prem Narayan Kushwaha, Janardan Yadav, Manu Srivastava, Nanhe, Govind, Lalu and one and a half year old girl Anshika.
In the accident, Monu (25), son of Ramnaresh Shrivastava, a resident of Faridabad, Ansikha (8) daughter of Janardan Yadav, a resident of Lucknow, Anushka (10) daughter of Janardan Yadav, a resident of Lucknow, Sangeeta (50) wife of Janardan Yadav, Harish (20) son of Vinod Yadav, a resident of Balrampur and Ramsanhi (36) son of Shriram Yadav, a resident of Balrampur were injured.
In the accident, one and a half year old Anshika's father Janardan Yadav died while her mother Sangeeta Yadav is injured. Sangeeta said that we are from Lucknow. We were going to Balaji (Bageshwar Dham) for daughter Anshika's mundan ceremony. My husband and three daughters were with us. The accident happened before the daughter's mundan ceremony. Two daughters are here, but the younger daughter and husband are not visible.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has expressed grief over the accident through social media platform X. He said that the news of untimely death of seven people from Uttar Pradesh and injury of six people travelling in an auto in a road accident while going from Mahoba railway station to Bageshwar Dham on Khajuraho-Jhansi highway under Chhatarpur district is very painful. We are in touch with the UP government to identify the deceased and contact their families. The seriously injured have been referred to Gwalior. The district administration has been directed for proper treatment of the injured. I pray to Baba Mahakal to give place to the holy souls of the deceased in his lotus feet and for the speedy recovery of the injured. We are with all the bereaved families in this hour of grief.
