Udaipur, August 20 (HS). The city bid a tearful farewell to Devraj Mochi, a promising student of class 10, who was stabbed to death by students of a particular community in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on Tuesday morning. Devraj was on ventilator since this incident happened during the interval in school on August 16. He died on Monday afternoon on Rakhi. The administration put pressure to conduct the last rites at night itself but due to opposition from Hindu organizations, it was agreed to conduct the last rites on Tuesday morning. There was a huge crowd at the last rites this morning.
The atmosphere in the city was tense since the incident on August 16. People are still wondering whether the accused student bought a knife from Kapasan and injured Devraj over a minor dispute like homework. The attack was made on the thigh at such a place that Devraj's entire blood flowed out in no time. Due to this, a wave of rumours kept spreading in the city. Hathipol, Ashwini Bazaar, Sindhi Bazaar, Mukherjee Chowk, Moti Chowhatta kept opening and closing from time to time.
Devraj's last rites were performed on Tuesday morning amid tight security. His father Pappu and cousin lit the funeral pyre. During the last rites, people also raised slogans of 'Devraj Amar Rahe'. Earlier, the child's body was handed over to the family at 4:30 in the morning. The last rites were taken out from the deceased's house at around seven o'clock. A large number of people were present during this time. Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, Deputy Mayor Paras Singhvi, BJP leader Pramod Samar, BJP and Hindu organization officials and workers participated. Udaipur Range IG Ajaypal Lamba along with senior officials of the administration were also present. The last rites were monitored with drones. A large number of police force was deployed on the entire route of the yatra. Meanwhile, internet ban has been continued in Udaipur city on Tuesday as well. There is a holiday in schools and colleges. The leaders of the cobbler community have appealed to everyone to maintain peace.
