Income Tax: In FY23, Reliance Industries (RIL) paid Mukesh Ambani Rs. 20,713 crore in tax making him the biggest taxpayer in India. SBI has Rs. 17,649 crore in tax payment and HDFC Bank has paid Rs. 15,350 crore in tax. Tata Consultancy Services has paid Rs. 14,604 crore in tax. Mukesh Ambani is the owner of Reliance Industries (RIL). He became India's highest taxpayer in FY 2023. His company paid Rs. 20,713 crore tax to the government. The second and third highest tax paying banks after Reliance are State Bank of India (SBI) and HDFC Bank. SBI paid Rs. 17,649 crore income tax in the last financial year. Atanu Chakraborty was appointed as its part-time chairman and independent director. HDFC Bank has paid Rs. 15,350 crore.

Mukesh Ambani will be Asia's richest man. His company Reliance Industries is included in the Fortune 500. Reliance Industries is India's largest group with a market capitalization of Rs. 19.68 lakh crore.

TCS has invested
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), an IT company of the Tata Group, during the financial year 2023 Tax paid was Rs 14,604 crore . Tax of Rs 14,604 crore was paid. It is the second largest listed company in India. Ratan Tata is currently the honorary chairman of the Tata Group.

For the financial year 2023, India's fourth largest company ICICI Bank will invest Rs. 11,793 crore in taxes paid. Sandeep Bakhshi, who was appointed CEO in 2023, took over as the bank's chief operating officer from Chanda Kochhar.

Infosys, another major company in the IT sector, paid Rs. 9,214 crore tax last year. Infosys operates in more than 56 countries across the world. It was founded by NR Narayana Murthy.

Gautam Adani is not among the top 10 taxpayers
Interestingly, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani is not among India's top 10 taxpayers. This is because corporate tax in India is levied on profits rather than market capitalisation. While the Adani Group has significant market capitalisation, it is not as profitable as Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries or other top companies.
