The second and third highest tax paying banks after Reliance are State Bank of India (SBI) and HDFC Bank. SBI paid Rs. 17,649 crore income tax in the last financial year. Atanu Chakraborty was appointed as its part-time chairman and independent director. HDFC Bank has paid Rs. 15,350 crore.
