Mumbai: The Goregaon police arrested a filmmaker and screenwriter two months after a case was registered against him for allegedly duping a financier of Rs 40 lakh.
The filmmaker used this money as interest to produce a television serial to be aired on Doordarshan. The producer was arrested last week and the court sent him to judicial custody.
According to the details received in this regard, Jogeshwari resident and complainant Sameer Singh deals in real estate. Apart from investing in the film industry, he is also a producer and actor. He has also financed several serials, web series and films. In March 2023, a friend of his introduced him to Pandey, who wanted to launch the serial Jaibharati on Doordarshan, Pandey signed a contract with the channel but the serial could not be launched due to financial constraints. Pandey then requested Sameer Singh to help financially for the serial. Singh agreed to finance the serial after reviewing Pandey's contract with Prasar Bharati.
There was an agreement between the complainant and the accused Pandey to pay the amount of 40 lakhs in various installments including interest. However, as per the agreement, Pandey paid Singh an amount of only four lakhs as interest in five months. And later stopped paying. Pandey refused to pay the amount even after Singh reminded him several times in this regard. Singh later came to know that Pandey had not started the serial and misused the money for personal use. After this incident, on the basis of Singh's complaint, Goregaon police registered a case against Pandey under IPC sections 406 (breach of trust), 420 (fraud). Pandey has also investigated whether he has cheated others in the name of making serials in this way.
