Haldwani, August 19 (HS). Congressmen on Monday observed a silent fast at Ambedkar Park in Mangal Padav under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and Congress MLA Sumit Hridayesh against the increasing atrocities on women in Uttarakhand. On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Congressmen pledged to protect the mothers, sisters and daughters of Uttarakhand.

Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya, while talking to the media, said that Devbhoomi is getting tarnished due to the increasing atrocities on women and daughters day by day. Everyone will have to work together to save women and daughters from human-like demons. There is a dire need to keep the law and justice process beyond politics. MLA Sumit Hridayesh said that every Uttarakhand resident's head is bowed in shame due to the increasing atrocities on sisters and daughters. Congress District President Rahul Chhimwal said that everyone has to understand the responsibility related to women's safety and respect and discharge it honestly. Metropolitan President Adv. Govind Bisht said that women's safety is a matter of national identity. There should be a provision of the harshest punishment without delay on those who play with it. PCC members Satish Nainwal, Harish Mehta, Hemant Bagdwal, Tara Negi, Rajendra Khanwal, Bhola Bhatt, Deep Pathak etc. were present in the silent fast.
