India intercepts plane going from China to Karachi, suspected of carrying material related to nuclear and missile program

Mumbai: Indian security agencies have intercepted a Karachi-bound flight from China at Mumbai's Nahwa Sheva port on suspicion that it was carrying dual-use material for the nuclear programme. It could have been used for Pakistan's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Based on intelligence, customs officials stopped Karachi-bound commercial vessel 'CMA CGM Attila' on January 23 and examined the cargo loaded on board. The flag of Malta was flying on the ship. A team from the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) also examined the consignment and certified that it could be used by Pakistan for its nuclear programme. According to experts, the equipment loaded in the plane can be used in manufacturing important machinery for Pakistan's missile development program.

After receiving intelligence, port authorities alerted Indian defense officials, who inspected the cargo on the ship and reported their suspicions. After this the consignment was confiscated. According to officials, it has been seized by Pakistan and China to prevent possible proliferation. A thorough investigation by security agencies revealed that the consignment weighing 22,180 kg was sent by Taiyuan Myung Import and Export Company Limited to Pakistan-based Cosmas Engineering. This is not the first case when Indian port authorities have seized such dual-use military items being shipped from China to Pakistan. Cosmos Engineering is a Pakistani defense supplier company. It is on the watch list since March 12, 2022. At that time also, Indian authorities had stopped the shipment of thermoelectric machinery made by an Italian company at Nahava Sheva port itself. Officials suspect that Pakistan may use China as a medium to obtain banned goods from Europe and the US to hide its identity. A similar case has come to light in 2020, when an industrial autoclave important for missile production was disguised as an industrial machine on a Chinese ship bound for Pakistan.

The ongoing investigation aims to determine whether the suspected Pakistani entities acquiring these dual-use items are supplying them to the Defense Science and Technology Organization (DESTO), which is responsible for most of Pakistan's defense research and development. .

CNC is also included in the luggage loaded on the plane

The equipment loaded on the plane also includes a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine made by an Italian company. CNC machines are basically created by computers and produce strength, consistency and accuracy that are not possible by humans. North Korea has used CNC machines in its nuclear program.
