Kathmandu, 15 February (HS). An agreement was reached on Thursday between the Central Bank of India and Nepal to implement the digital payment system. The agreement was signed by Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das and Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari in Mumbai. Under this, India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and Nepal's National Payment Interface (NPI) will be linked. With this, payment can be made through UPI in Nepal and NPI in India.
Nepal Rastra Bank has said in a statement that under this agreement, a joint regulatory mechanism will be established for digital payment systems. After the agreement signed between the Governors of the two countries today in Mumbai, it has been described as a historic day in the economic field. Nepal Rastra Bank has said that this agreement will take cultural and religious relations between the two countries as well as economic relations to a new height.
For a long time, efforts were being made between Nepal and India to make the process of digital payment in each other's country easy and simple. During the last visit of Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to India, an agreement was signed between the two countries regarding digital payment system. Under the same, an agreement was signed today in Mumbai between the governors of the central banks of the two countries.
