Wakf Amendment Bill: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 will hold its first meeting on August 22. Meanwhile, a 31-member panel of the Minority Affairs Ministry will be briefed on the proposed law. The meeting will be held at the Parliament House Annexe in Delhi.
It may be mentioned here that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was constituted during the recently concluded Parliament session when the Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha amid protests from the Opposition.
Senior BJP leader and MP Jagadambika Pale has been made the chairman of this committee. In this meeting of JPC, the panel of officials of the Ministry of Minority Affairs will be informed about the proposed amendments in the Waqf Act.
