New Delhi, August 17 (HS). Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar took a veiled dig at the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, saying that some people in the country have put their political interests above national interest.

Dhankhar, while addressing a gathering at Swarna Bharat Trust in Venkatachalam in Nellore district on Saturday, said that some people in the country have put their political interest above national interest for improper reasons. He said that we hope that they will come to their senses. Such people will learn from the supreme sacrifices made for the independence of our country. Dhankhar's statement comes after Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the integrity of India's stock market after the latest Hindenburg report.

Vice President Dhankhar called upon the nation to adopt economic nationalism. He urged the industry, trade and commerce sectors to give priority to local production instead of unnecessary imports. He mentioned the negative impact of unnecessary imports on the economy. He said that our dependence on imported goods like carpets, textiles and toys is not only sending our foreign currency abroad but is also hampering the development of domestic entrepreneurship.

Dhankhar underlined the critical need for optimal consumption of natural resources and urged citizens to use resources based on need rather than financial power. He emphasised that excessive use of natural resources driven by economic power is a major threat to future generations.

Warning against wasteful spending, Dhankhar said such actions would endanger the well-being of future generations. “If we spend unnecessarily based on the power of money, we are endangering the future generation,” he said.

Expressing his deep admiration and respect for former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Dhankhar highlighted Naidu's lifelong dedication to the welfare of the nation and emphasised his unwavering commitment to the ideals that shaped his public life.
