Eating fruits keeps us healthy. We get many nutrients by consuming it. Fruits contain plenty of minerals, calcium, vitamin D, fiber and vitamins which protect us from many diseases. But are you eating fruits in the right quantity? No matter how many fruits you eat, if you do not consume them at the right time, then they will cause more harm than benefit. There is an Ayurvedic way to eat fruits in the right way, by adopting which you can keep yourself healthy.
How should fruits not be consumed?
Fresh fruits are lighter and easier to digest than other foods. When you consume it with or after a heavy meal, it stays in the stomach until the heavy food is digested. Due to which it gets overcooked by our digestive juices and starts fermenting. In Ayurveda, the overcooked, fermented waste is known as ama or improperly digested food poisoning. This moist, acidic waste accumulates in our digestive system and affects the digestive system, leading to indigestion, food sensitivities and intestinal inflammation.
What is the right way to eat fruits?
Fruits should always be eaten alone. Never eat it immediately after a meal. Fruits can be eaten 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Do not eat fruits with or after meals. Do not consume it with milk or yogurt. If you want, you can eat fruits with plant-based milk or yogurt. You should drink fruit juice only when your digestive system is weak or you are unable to chew things properly. Do not eat fruits late at night or in the evening.
Do not eat these fruits with milk
Try an Ayurvedic remedy while mixing fruits and milk. If you like to mix fruits in milk, then only sweet and ripe fruits can be added to milk. You can take it with dry fruits like raisins, dates and figs. Avoid mixing all berries with milk, including strawberries. When we add berries to milk, the milk does not curdle immediately but it curdles after the digestion process as soon as it reaches the stomach. Many people like to eat banana mixed with milk. Bananas may be sweet, but when you consume them with milk, the digestion process is sour, so both should not be eaten together. Taking milk and fruit separately is a healthy option.
