The people of Jammu and Kashmir chose the ballot instead of bullets and boycott. Confidence in democracy has increased in the Union Territory.
- Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the pictures shown by India in the general elections have surprised the whole world. Whenever there are elections in the world, you will definitely remember the elections in India.
- Earlier, assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014. There were 87 seats then, but now after delimitation, the number of seats in the Union Territory has increased to 90. This was the time when Article 370 was not removed from Jammu and Kashmir.
Elections on 90-90 seats of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir
Elections are to be held for 90 assembly seats in Haryana, where the BJP has been in power for nearly 10 years. Although the BJP managed to win only 40 seats in the 2019 elections, 6 short of a majority, it managed to form the government in alliance with independents and the JJP.
At the same time, after delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir, the number of seats has increased to 114. Out of these, 24 seats are in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), while out of 90 seats, 47 seats come under Kashmir Division and 43 seats come under Jammu Division. Assembly elections were last held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014, after which a BJP-PDP coalition government was formed under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti. This coalition broke in 2018 and Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, after which assembly elections could not be held in Jammu and Kashmir.
