Earlier, when someone had to buy something, people used to make purchases only by paying in cash. Or if someone had to pay money, it was paid in cash or transferred to the bank account.
But now technology has changed a lot. The methods have become very simple. Now if people want to buy goods, they can make payment in a moment through UPI or if they want to send money to someone, that too can be done in seconds through UPI.
But this game of seconds sometimes makes you commit mistakes. You miss some numbers and the payment goes to the wrong UPI ID. In such a case, you suffer a loss. What option do you have after this? How can you get your refund? Let us tell you what are the rules for this.
If wrong payment has been made then do this work first
After making a UPI payment, you should always check whether you have made the correct payment or the wrong one. Because if you come to know that you have made the payment on the wrong ID, then you will be able to get its refund easily. And if you come to know about it late and you do not pay attention, then you may have to face trouble. Therefore, when you make a UPI payment on a wrong number, first of all call the customer care of your bank or the UPI service provider to whom you have made the payment and inform them about it.
For example, if the payment has been made through Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or any other app, then call its help center. You can also lodge your complaint by calling the toll free number 18001201740. Here you have to give complete information about the payment. Let us tell you that according to RBI rules, if you have informed the payment service provider about the wrong UPI payment, then you can get an immediate refund.
You can also complain to NPCI
If your bank and your service provider company are unable to process your refund. Then you can also complain on the NPCI portal. On the official portal of NPCI https://www.npci.org.in/, you have to click on the 'What we do' option. Here you will see many options. From which you have to select the UPI option. After this, you have to go to the complaint area and give all the information about your wrong payment. In which the name of the bank, UPI ID, phone number, email ID, all these have to be entered.
File a complaint within three days
The most important thing after making a wrong UPI payment is time. If you complain at the right time, you have a good chance of getting a quick refund. That is, if you have made a payment and you file a complaint within three days of that payment.
This increases your chances of getting a refund. But if you do not complain for three days, it becomes very difficult for you to get a refund. Let us tell you that if you have complained and you have not received a refund within 30 days, then you can complain about it to the Banking Ombudsman.
