Kathua, Aug 15 (HS): The University of Jammu's Kathua Campus celebrated the 78th Independence Day with a series of commemorative events that underlined the importance of patriotism and environmental management.
The celebrations began with a heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of the country. Members of the campus community gathered to lay flowers and express their deep admiration to the soldiers. The tributes highlighted the enduring respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by these bravehearts. The central event of the day was the flag hoisting ceremony, which took place on the lawns of the Academic Block of Kathua Campus. Professor Arvind Jasrotia Rector Kathua Campus led the celebrations by hoisting the National Flag which symbolises the unity and sovereignty of the country. The flag hoisting ceremony was conducted by Lt. Amit Sharma Assistant Professor Kathua Campus accompanied by NCC cadets, followed by a vigorous rendition of the National Anthem by the University choir symbolising the harmony and pride of the nation. Meanwhile, as part of the 78th Independence Day celebrations, a special plantation drive titled Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam was organised, in which saplings were planted to honour the occasion. Students, faculty members and staff led by Professor Arvind Jasrotia participated enthusiastically by planting saplings all across the campus. Dr Vivek Sharma Academic Coordinator, Dr Pankaj Khajuria Assistant Registrar faculty members, staff and students of UIET and Campus participated in the programme.
