Kolkata, 15 August (HS). The state government has strongly opposed the appeal for a 12-hour bandh and two-hour work stoppage proposed in West Bengal on Friday. In a press release issued from Navanna, the state's Chief Secretary has clarified that there will be no bandh of any kind in the state on Friday, 16 August and life will remain normal.
The press release said that there will be no impact on the state transport service and it will operate normally like other days. In this regard, the Secretary of the State Transport Authority (STA) has been directed to coordinate with all private transport operators and associations so that the traffic system is not affected. Along with this, all operators associated with the transport department have been instructed to strictly follow the departmental orders.
Various directors and organizations of the Transport Corporation have also been instructed to open control rooms for August 16 so that traffic can operate smoothly. Additionally, the approved leaves of all employees have been cancelled.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already made it clear on several occasions that the lives and livelihoods of the general public are adversely affected due to the bandh. She has always opposed the bandh culture, and the same policy has been adopted by the state government this time as well.
